888 Cafe at Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara

    By Cookies Cream | September 14, 2007

I don’t think Tim is the last person to write up about this cafe. :P Thank you so much to Tim for organising this food tasting session. This is the first time I venture into Kota Damansara. To be honest, I have no idea exactly where it is when Tim said that there’s a food tasting there. Luckily Jason gave me some directions on how to go there. Also, Daryl sent me a map to this cafe. Banyak banyak “kam sia”. :P

Well, I reached there with Shujin pretty early that night as we were afraid that we will get lost when finding that cafe and there’ll be traffic jam but there isn’t! LOL. I smsed Tim when we got there, thinking we will be the first to arrive. Minutes later he called and said he’s at the cafe’s main entrance. He was already there busy snapping photos already. :)

The main entrance of 888 Cafe.

    cafe_888_environment.jpg

This is the side view of the cafe. This cafe is very “English-look” to me.

    history_888.jpg

When we went inside, there’s already a row of 5-6 tables joined together reserved just for us bloggers. ;) There is this “Yesterday Once More” that writes about the history of Cafe 888. Minutes later Jackson and Teckiee arrived. Then Xiu Long Bao with Char Siew Bao, Lianne, FBB, Joe, Daryl, Mei Yen with fiance Bob, KampungBoyCityGal, and also Big Boys Oven.

    menu-drinks.jpg

As I was browsing through the I was deciding on what drink should I order. The waiter then recommended me their specialty “888-Rose Lemon Tea”.

    lemon_rose_tea.jpg

It’s quite a normal tea for me. I couldn’t taste any rose in it, but it was rather like a common iced tea.

    ichi-kabin.jpg

First appetiser made me felt a little, “Fried chicken? Looks good!” It’s called Inchi Kabin or..is it Ichi Kabin? @.@ Taste wise, the meat was pretty tasty as they marinate it with lots of spices. But it does not appear to be as tender as I thought. I hope that it’s not so dry. It is priced at RM7.90.

    otak-otak.jpg

Oooo, it’s been a long time since I last makan this~! *Excited* “Wait wait wait~ Take photo first.” :)

    otak-otak2.jpg

Otak-Otak (RM5.90)..this is delicious. It was blasting with flavors and there’s chunks of fish meat (I suppose) inside.

    shrimps_sandwich.jpg

This is Shrimp Toast (RM7.90). It’s actually deep fried sandwich bread with shrimp paste inside. Simple presentation brings out this lovely and crunchy bread with the warm and soft shrimp paste in it.

Things were moving quite fast as the bloggers were busy taking photos of the appetisers, few main courses came out in just a short time.
    nasi_lemak1.jpg

This nasi lemak looked pretty delicious, but the portion next to the roasted peanuts is surely beef rendang.

    nasi_lemak.jpg

On the other of the beef rendang in the nasi lemak plate, there’s a fried (ikan kembong?) and some onion sambal poured on it. The fish was not bad, and I loved the onion sambal as it was quite spicy although it’s a tad too sweet. (Love spicy food) :) The rest that’s being served on the plate are like hard boiled egg, kangkung vege, and the uniquely special fried anchovies (ikan bilis). Their anchovies were super huge compared to normal ones, they’re being halved thinly and then deep fried.

    char_kuey_teow.jpg

This is their Penang Char Kueh Teow. It looked great with 2 huge prawns and some shredded crab meat sprinkled on top of it. During tasting, I could taste some fragrance of peanut. Not sure if they put any into them. Other than that, their cockles tasted pretty fresh to me but I wish it has more “wok hei” in it.

    curry_laksa.jpg

This is the most special main course that I’ve tasted there. Again, most simple looking dishes gives you the extra surprise. The curry gravy of this laksa was very special. I could not describe how special it was or what was put into it but it was just special! It’s like some curry with nyonya feel, with some sourish hint in it. The laksa came in mee and bee hoon (vermicelli), fresh cockles, tofu puff, brinjal and long beans. Thumbs up for this!

    sizzling_lamb_chop.jpg

Next up was Sizzling Lamb Chop (RM18.90). It looked very delish. I guess it’s because we were too busy snapping photos which ended up the lamb and vege in the sizzling plate burnt. I asked Shujin to cut a slice of the lamb meat for me. Ooo la la, the lamb meat was tasty! Although the meat wasn’t tender, but they did very good job on marinating the lamb. The taste of the meat spread out the flavor in it.

    peranakan_plate.jpg

Peranakan Plate. It’s something similar to nasi lemak but they came with grilled prawns, papadum (Indian traditional crackers), and a bowl of dry-curry vege. The bowl of curry vege was delish. There’s some curry sauce in the vege, which tasted like the laksa gravy.

    nyonya_plate.jpg

This is the Nyonya plate. This plate cam with the fried chicken (Inchi/Ichi Kabin I presume), prawns. papadum, a bowl of yellow/kunyit alike onion calamari and a saucer plate of spicy cucumber with pineapples.

    nyonya_plate1.jpg

I loved the calamari as it tasted springy and the spicy cucumber with pineapples were lovely as it tasted like a mixture of “pan mee” spicy chili with the cucumber.

    spaghetti_bolognese.jpg

This is their Spaghetti Bolognaise (RM12.90). I was a little doubted when I had my first mouth of the spaghetti. *Is it beef? It looked like beef, but I guess they won’t serve beef else they’ll tell?* When second spoon of spaghetti is approaching to my mouth, someone from the other side of the table told Xiu Long Bao that it was beef..I was like ARGH~~

    sizzling_chick_chop.jpg

Sizzling Chicken Chop came up with sides of potato wedges, broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots. Again, we were too busy taking photo. The chicken ended up burnt again. But, I cut out 1 portion of the chicken and tried it out. The meat was tender for sure. Wish that it wasn’t so burnt. :)

    aglio_olio.jpg

Last but not least, Spaghetti Aglio Olio came up (RM15.90). Well, this is another praised entry for the main courses. It was full of garlic and olive oil aroma. The springy calamari made me wants more. :P It’s really tasty albeit it’s a little too spicy compared to the common ones served outside. But, I love it cause I like spicy food.

    butter_kaya_toast.jpg

After the meal, we even got to try out their kaya and butter toast. It was not bad. The kaya wasn’t too sweet but I prefer those with frozen butter pieces –> *Sinfully tasty*!

    hot_rose_lemon_tea.jpg

Mr. Alvin Ang even got each of us a cup of hot rose lemon tea. It’s their own production. The hot version definitely gave more aroma compare to the one served chilled. I love the aroma, it’s really soothing and relaxing but it’s too sweet for me. They sell boxes of teas in the cafe too. I wish I could buy some of the rose lemon tea home but all were already prepacked with sugar. I wish I could buy some without sugar for my dad. I asked the owner, Mr. Alvin Ang and he said they’ll be packaging some without sugar to sell soon.

    fbb_durian_cake.jpg

And last but not least, tadaaaa~~~! Fbb made a cake for all of us (In conjunction to celebrate Jackson’s belated birthday). Fbb’s durian cheese cake! OMG, this is superbly sinfully heavenly delicious! I don’t know what other words that I can describe it. It’s so cheesy, and yet full of durian flesh and yet the crust/base of the cake was still crunchy and aromatic….oooo. Thank you Fbb for baking us such a wonderful cake. ;)

    thank_you_letter.jpg

Owner of 888 Cafe Mr. Alvin Ang was so generous to produce each of us a thank you letter. I was quite surprised to see that.

    cafe_voucher.jpg

He even printed each of us booklet of promotion vouchers that we can get when we visit them again next time. Thank you to Mr. Alvin for the lovely night.

I wish Mr. Alvin Ang all the best in his cafe and hope that he’ll be gaining lots of improvements for their cafe.

Today our daily routine does not allow time for workouts and we gain weight throughout. When it is evident that we are no less than fat we think about weightloss activities and plans. One of the way people buy adipex like medicines. And as other ways professionals provide diet plan like abs diet to control weight problems.
