Ban Lee Bak Kut Teh
By Cookies Cream | February 19, 2009

My family used to frequent this shop a lot since I was a little kid which is just situated next to Dynasty Hotel. Their famous food is the “yat zhi kuat” which means 1 big bone. We usually ordered it to be in separate chinese bowl, like 1 bowl of “yat zhi kuat” and 1 bowl of “intestines+stomach”.

It’s been quite a while since I last visited this shop. This time, Shujin and I ordered a claypot for 2 person, deep fried crullers (yau char kwai) and of course taufu pok (bean curd puffs).

In the claypot there’s the Bak Kut Teh basic ingredients like Enoki mushrooms, pig intestines+stomach, green vege, button mushrooms, and fu chuk (bean curd skin).
Pig stomach was always my favourite in any dish. I’m not usually a pig intestine person because it’ll always have some weird taste (due to lack of “cleanliness” towards the intestines), but this time I was quite amazed by their pig intestines It’s springy and very fresh..I believe it’s because they layer the intestines until it’s quite thick to give the springy effect.
The meat from the bone were excellently tender and nice. Oh, and the soup was just nice for me. Saw the soup in the claypot they gave us? A bit stingy, but of course you can always add extra soup. =P
