    Singapore Trip

    By Cookies Cream | June 21, 2008

A short post on what I’ve eaten when I’m in Singapore……..though it’s been ages since I last visited Spore, but I think it’s still worth a mention. =PWas at Vista Point (building number: 548), Woodlands. This building is very near my uncle’s place, so went there for a breakfast.

    img_5115-copy.jpg

I had Wanton Noodle ($3) from “Siang Kee Noodle House”. I’m surprised that their soup were very flavorful and it’s full of the aromatic pork bone as you sip down the soup. :) Much better than I expected. They had different boiling water allocation for making their noodle. One pot is for cooking meat, one for cooking wanton, and another is for the noodles.

    img_5124-copy.jpg

The wanton was huge as it’s stuffed full with pork…sedap!!

    img_5116-copy.jpg

Shujin ordered Loh Mee ($2.50) from “Old Hokkien Prawn Noodle” stall.

    img_5121-copy.jpg

You can eat your Loh Mee with sambal belacan or garlic paste/puree. The Loh Mee sauce was fulled of herbs. :) The noodle was accompanied with half boild egg, bean sprouts, and 2 types of meat. One is thinly sliced and another some sort of layered meat. The layered meat is gotten from a part of the piggy, not sure if it’s (3 chang yuk - cantonese) but the meat’s not really fatty.

    img_5119-copy.jpg

Uncle’s wife went to buy some yau char kwai aka chinese crullers which costs $0.50 per piece. Their crullers were definitely bigger than the ones in Malaysia. It’s really crispy and fluffy. =)

We were at Raffles City for a walk and went to their Food Junction for lunch.

    img_5135-copy.jpg

Shujin ordered Chicken Chop with Fried Egg Rice ($4.50) from “Little Wok”. The meat were very tender and fresh! Plus point was the chicken’s skin was crispy. This is what kita panggil, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside…Hohoho.

    img_5143-copy.jpg

Uncle had some nasi campur from “Katrina Nasi Padang”. His plate of rice ($4.50) includes a piece of chicken, and some vege. I did not try it…uncle told us it wasn’t nice. Hmm..

    img_5146-copy.jpg

Aunt had curry laksa ($4) from “Noodle House”. It looked and smells superb! But I didn’t try it….Uncle told me it’s very delish and spicy!!!@.@

I walked around the food court and saw Dessert stall. Went over to order some lo.. :)

    img_5145-copy.jpg

I ordered “Tao Suan” ($1.60)…sorry that I don’t know what’s it called in English…sudah lupa. It came with chinese crullers (yau char kwai). It wasn’t nice at all..cause the cruller spoilt it! psssttt~

    img_5149-copy.jpg

Shujin ordered Chendol ($2). Can you see how artificial is their green starch noodle? I don’t think pandan leaves + green pea flour will make such striking colors on noodle strands lor. This bowl of chendol is not bad overall minus the greeny…With red beans, black jelly, coconut and some gula melaka. Of course, it can’t be compared to the ones in Malacca. :)

    img_5237-copy.jpg

After lunch, uncle brought us to walk around. Then we walked to Lau Pa Sat. Aunt told us there’s a nice rojak in the food court. So we went in and ordered some. The rojak was not bad. :) Guess who I saw in the food court???

    20060330084154c4376.jpg

It’s Francis Ng Chun-Yu (吳鎮宇)! I still remembered I loved his act in Triumph In The Skies (衝上雲霄)” series. Glad to see him there but he’s with his family. So we can’t disturb him. He don’t even bother to smile to anyone…hmmm.

After the rojak thingy, we went to Chinatown Food Centre “牛车水美食街” for dinner.

    img_5246-copy.jpg

Uncle ordered some porridge for his children from Tiong Bahru Hua Yuen Porridge stall.

    img_5252-copy.jpg

Pig Intestine Mix Porridge ($3) is really worth ordering! The porridge was very aromatic and it’s really warm to be eaten. The pig stomach, intestine, tounge were flavorful in and out, making this bowl of porridge uniquely tasty.

    img_5247-copy.jpg img_5248-copy.jpg
Shujin ordered a small bowl of Wantan Char Siew Noodle ($3) from Fei Fei stall.

    img_5250-copy.jpg

The noodle was very “Q”…giving you a springy feel in your mouth. The char siew (BBQ pork slices) too were very flavorful and tasty. AND, the soup too was very nice and delish. What a surprise to almost get a bowl of perfect wanton noodle. The only down ones were the wantons which were too peppery inside, flushing down all the fresh and sweety taste of the meat.

    img_5257-copy.jpg

I myself went to order Char Kuey Trow costed $3 for a small plate. At first sight, I thought it wouldn’t be good cause the char kuey teow were all pre-fried with dark soy sauce and kept in a big “tong”. Then the lady will just scoop up some of the noodle into her wok after heating up oil and what not.

The noodle turned out good. Cockles cooked to perfection! Technique of cooking the cockles almost on the same par as my dad…LOL.

Uncle and Shujin too said it was delish. So we decided to order their Hokkien Prawn Fried Noodle, $5 for a small plate.

    img_5261-copy.jpg

Well, it’s my first time trying Singapore’s Fried Hokkien Noodle. They were a little wet in style..with bean sprouts, egg, lots of calamari, and 3 medium big prawns. The seafood were very fresh! Totally earn credits from me. =)
Here comes 2nd Day in Singapore!

    img_5292-copy.jpg

Kita dekat mana ya? It was like around 11am+? Me and Shujin decided to walk around at Raffles Market Place. Saw these queuing tools being placed and had no clue what shop (so dai pai) that can make such long queue. Out of curiosity I went on walking til I reached the end (which is the front) of the queuing tools.

    img_5285-copy.jpg

Here it is!!! DONUTSSSS~ Ooo, why is it getting so much attention from the Singaporeans so early before noon? Is it that good??? Don’t know and don’t care, must buy and try! :P

    img_5284-copy.jpg

Saw Shujin (in pink shirt) in the pic? I asked him to queue up while I busy taking some shots around there. I bet the crowd is going to be totally crazy from afternoon til night when everyone’s awake and out to Raffles! *A little over exaggerating*

    img_5297-copy.jpg

I don’t know what should I get…it’s kinda hard to choose cause I can’t buy ‘em all. Finally made my decision!

    img_5304-copy.jpg

People, pleaseeeeeeeeee..if you guys are going to Singapore and in Raffles please do try it! It’s called Donut Factory~! Good leh, ada free advertisement for them~LOL

    img_5303-copy.jpg

All the donuts were $1.30 per piece, I think? Well, the on left is Mint Dark Chocolate while the one on right is Apple Cinnamon. OMG! It’s very very oishii! I’m not kidding you~~~

First bite on the apple donut, give me all! It’s crunchy outside, and it gives you the “ka chi ka chi” sound~ The inside were so soft and…….yummyy! The mint choc was same! Rich taste of dark chocolate with hint of mint on a donut was totally awesome~ You will not feel like giving it to others trust me!!! I told my uncle and he said Donut Factory’s always full of people. Now I know why there will be such a huge crowd after trying it. ^.^

    img_5302-copy.jpg

Saw Old Chang Kee after buying donuts. It was just the same row as Donut Factory, few shops away.

    img_5305.jpg

Of course ler cannot miss out Old Chang Kee.

    img_5309-copy.jpg

Curry puff! The pastry was a little too thick for me. The curry wasn’t as fragrant and spicy as the ones we can get in Malaysia. But it was not bad. The filling was very very full~

    I WANT MORE DONUTSSS! *Grin*

    Pick N’ Brew, One Utama

    By Cookies Cream | May 19, 2008

Pick N’ Brew had opened another outlet in One Utama two months (March ‘08) ago. I have never been to their outlet in Glenmarie. Met up with few floggers that day and Jason told me that I must try their apple crumble cheese cake, but I didn’t get any dessert that day. Luckily I stole tried a spoon of the cheese cake and it’s really yummy and cheesy and the apple was sour and sweet. :)

Since this Pick N’ Brew session had already been posted up and introduced by so many floggers, so I’ll just post up the photos and give a brief intro here. :P

    pick-n-brew-environment.jpg

This is the interior of Pick N’ Brew, where bigger round tables were available at the inner side of the cafe.

    pick-n-brew-olive_oil.jpg

    Isn’t this bottle of olive oil and vinegar CUTE??? =}

    pick-n-brew-coffee_jug.jpg

Cutie little coffee pot. Thanks WMW for bringing it over our table to allow us to take photos of it. =D

    pick-n-brew-complimentary_bread.jpg

Complimentary bread from Pick N’ Brew.

    pick-n-brew-muffin.jpg

They also have complimentary muffin for their new opening.

    pick-n-brew-coffee.jpg

Their promotional drink (only at RM2!) of the day was supposed to be Irish Cream Frappelicious but it’s sold out. So, they substituted it with another version. I think it’s called Irish Cream Latte or something? Also at RM2.

    pick-n-brew-choco_shake.jpg

Iced Chocolate (RM10) ordered by Yammylicious

    pick-n-brew-ceaser_salad.jpg

Yammylicious ordered 1 salad and one pesto to share with her bf. :) Their order is Ceaser Salad (RM16)

    pick-n-brew-prawn_salad.jpg

Simon came a little later, and it’s my first time meeting him that day. :) He ordered Spanish Prawn Salad (RM19)

    pick-n-brew-pesto_sundried_tomato.jpg

Yammylicious’s Pesto sun Dried Tomato (RM20) looks so yummy!

    pick-n-brew-salmon_fillet.jpg

Shujin was thinking of getting some fish for his late lunch, so I ordered Grenobloise Salmon Fillet (RM32) for him.

    pick-n-brew-salmon_fillet1.jpg

I totally love it’s presentation. The hint of sourish taste from the sauce makes you feel more appetizing :)

    pick-n-brew-carbonara.jpg

As for me, I ordered Penne Carbonara (RM18).

    pick-n-brew-nasi_kerabu.jpg

Jason ordered Nasi Kerabu (RM17) which is quite different from the normal items on the menu.

    pick-n-brew-strawberry_cheese.jpg

Jason ended his meal with a piece of Strawberry Cheese Cake (RM9) which I was also able to steal try a spoon of it~ :D

I’m really happy that I could meet up with the floggers again. Oh, Pick N’ Brew is a good place for the floggers. You know why? Cause they have a 10% discount on the bill for us food bloggers~ =)

    The Train Story…

    By Cookies Cream | May 14, 2008

Today is considered as my happy day because, I did something that I’m happy about it. (Sounds like a crappy starting point!) I’ve been having lots of problems when traveling back with train stations..be it Putra, the Star Link, or KTM. I really do not understand what’s on people’s mind nowadays, I’m sure if you are a person that understands and know what’s rule, politeness, and all…AND YOU DO FOLLOW RULES AND BE POLITE, you sure will come through those stupid people who do not know how to queue up and won’t stuck people’s way form getting out of the train. I’ve been really mad about these type of people every single day! BUT, what can I do? I thought of asking them to queue up in a polite manner, but what if they do not listen or scold me back? Then what shall I do???

*Sigh* I remembered once when I was waiting at a KTM station. That time the crowd in the train was really huge and I could barely get into the train. Then came one lady who pushed me several times, I told her politely:

Me: “Can you please don’t push me?”

Unreasonable Lady: “Then go in la!”

Me: “If I can go in surely I’ll go in…” (wth! There’s no space to go in already how am I supposed to go in?!!?!)

    Unreasonable Lady: “Yala…go in la!!!”

Yes, I was sooo darn pissed off with her (Wish I could just scold her back on her face!) but what can I do? If I scold her back she’ll scold me back cause she don’t know what’s wrong with her!!!

Then, there’s one day when I was traveling at Masjid Jamek’s Star LRT. I was queuing up as usual, then suddenly I heard a man’s voice scolding someone. There came a formally dressed, smart looking (mid-30’s) man who actually scolded a lady for not standing at the queue up line! The lady made some “busuk” face but slowly shifted out from middle of the train door (where you shouldn’t be standing there!) as I believed she’s totally embarrassed by the situation where everyone’s looking at her. I was so amazed by the braveness that the man did! BRAVO! I’m happy to see that there’s still these kind of people out there who will stand out of the crowd and be a man~! =) I’m still not that brave to do so as I’ve yet to find out a good solution if the person fights back…. :’(

Then came today, I was waiting at Masjid Jamek’s LRT. While I was queuing up, a lady in her mid-40’s dressed in a set of pink blouse and pants stood in the middle of the train door~! I was standing on the left queue up line, then…a young lady who stood on the right queue up line was looking at the lady in pink fiercely! From that moment, I knew she’s the same type of person as I am….hohoho!

The train then arrived, while the train was going to open it’s door…the three of us were standing closely trying to get the first place to go in. Me and the other young lady trying to block the pink lady from going in first! The lady in pink surely can’t go in as there’s a lady inside the train who wanted to come out too! Me and the young lady have succeeded blocking the lady in pink from getting into the train first. Well, she almost fell down and she made the unhappy sound but who cares! She’s the one who didn’t queue up….so serves you right!!!

I’m sooo happy cause the young lady and I had successfully blocked the lady in pink! Hope that the lady in pink will realize that she should really queue up! People might say, aiya…just scold them! But, what if they ignore the scolding? What if they scold you back? Then what should you do? Scold them back? There’s people who don’t feel embarrassed if caught doing something wrong, they only know they’re right even thought they’re not!

People might also say, it’s just a small thing…it’s just queuing up and getting into the train. What’s the point of making things sounds like it’s serious? If people do not obey rules, do not know how to be polite, no manners….then what’s the point of having rules and learning morality?

If you guys have any good ways or methods on how to manage these kind of rude, no manners people who like to cut queue, don’t queue up, or doing any rude things…please do let me know~

    Strawberry Fields Cafe

    By Cookies Cream | April 29, 2008

    img_3989-copy.jpg

Went round and round yearssss long time ago back in Taipan and saw this quite “different” signboard name on this cafe, Strawberry Fields Cafe which is in Taipan USJ10. This cafe is “Halal”.

    img_3977-copy.jpg

A quick glance through it this cafe looks pretty much in common/standard and does not have fancy interiors…but it’s comfortable and pretty cozy. I think this cafe is pretty much a combination of Thai and Western food as it’s written on the menu header.

    img_3969-copy.jpg

Shujin is always IN LOVE with Iced Lemon Tea. :P

    img_3970-copy.jpg

I on the other hand ordered Strawberry Milk Shake because…..their cafe’s name is called strawberry field. So, what I expected will something good (supposedly), but this milk shake is cheap so can’t expect much. The end result after tasting…..it’s no good at all. I think they just add in some normal strawberry ice cream (little cough med syrup) into milk and blend it.

    img_3966-copy.jpg

I ordered their Butter Cream Chicken Rice. I didn’t expect this butter chicken to be fulled of
“bird’s eye” cili padi! Actually I was supposed to be super happy to see all the cili padi but I was having sore throat that night….iskk iskkk. The chicken meat was just ok. I would wish the gravy to be a little thicker and buttery.

    img_3974-copy.jpg

Shujin ordered seafood platter. So, what’s nice on this plate? There’s 3 big head prawns, fish, calamari rings, fries, baked bean, and coleslaw served with mayonnaise + lemon piece. I love calamari so I took one to try. OMG, the batter on the calamari was a BIG NO NO! It’s lembik (I don’t know why) which didn’t give the crispy texture. Their calamari rings were cut thickly. The prawns isn’t really fresh but at least it tasted sweet. Not much comment on the fish as it was pretty crispy on the outside.

I have to say that their coleslaw was delish. They added cucumber  in which gives you the extra crunch! =)

    img_3985-copy.jpg

Dessert was banana boat. The ice cream is alright, I just needed some dessert that’s all. :P

    img_3987-copy.jpg

But, the banana isn’t right. If you look at this photo, you can see the banana was already half spoilt. And yet they cut it and place it on the dessert plate to serve to customer. It’s not something serious but….still…

Life is Full of Ups and Downs…and holes too???

    By Cookies Cream | April 13, 2008

    If I’m not mistaken I remembered that Tummy Thoughts used to and love to make her readers to guess on certain things that she have posted. =}

I would also like my readers to try to guess the photo below. Tee Heee~~~

    guess2.JPG

Besides guessing, I think this photo also speaks out what I’m going through right now for my training. The road in front of you isn’t flat and smooth…but it’s full of bumps and holes. Once you’re not careful, then you might fall into the hole…and….. @.@
